Dale, a modelmaker, spends one morning at the end of a conference table answering questions about a small red toy he sculpted, in a copyright case over where that character came from. Five lawyers sit at that table and all five are named. Vivian, the lead counsel on the other side, asks nearly every question. Rosa, her co-counsel, has the dates. Tess, their junior, has the little red toy in front of her and speaks only twice. Kent, the lawyer defending Dale, objects and gets nowhere. Owen, Kent's young second, says almost nothing until he says the wrong thing out loud. A video camera on a tripod records all of it and nobody ever turns it off.
